What Is BHB No ratings yet.

Have you heard of BHB? It’s popping up more and more these days. If you’re on the keto diet, you’re sure to have heard of it, but if you’re not… maybe not. Whether you’ve heard of it or not, we’re here to answer the question What is BHB and what does it do. We’ll even take a look at a product called BHB salt. Ready to get into this? Here we go!

What is BHB?

BHB is short for beta-hydroxybutyrate. It’s what’s known as a ketone, which is a fancy way of saying energy molecule. It’s produced naturally inside your liver. BHB is one of three ketones that occur in your body, but it’s the one that seeks out fat to burn for energy rather than carbs. There is a growing number of people that believe that BHB actually creates a cleaner and more productive body.

What Is BHB Used For?

BHB supplements have become a staple of people that are on the keto-diet. The idea behind the diet is get your body into a state of ketosis where more BHB is being produced. BHB supplements are supposed to help people achieve ketosis more quickly. Here is a list of things that many people believe using BHB to burn energy may help promote:

  • Boosting Fat Loss
  • Enhance Workouts
  • Helps Bone Density
  • Increases Lifespan
  • Reduced Inflammation
  • Boosted Heart Function
  • Helps to Fight/Prevent Cancer

Does BHB Do All That Stuff?

Short answer: maybe? There are a lot of studies out about BHB. You can read one of many here. The results are… inconclusive to say the least. While some of the studies back up one or more of the claims made by BHB proponents, it’s just as easy to find one that refutes those claims. Almost none of the studies appear to claim that supplementing your intake of BHB is dangerous in any demonstrable way. Honestly, the best way for you to know if it’ll work is for you to try it. Nothing beats first-hand experience.

What is BHB Salt

BHB salts were created to solve a problem you may have already guessed: raw BHB tastes like hot garbage. Basically, if you’re ordering a supplement, you’re getting BHB salt. The salt is just the exogenous BHB mixed with natural minerals to improve the taste and make it mixable with foods. Raw BHB can also irritate the stomach. Turning it into a salt alleviates that problem too.

That’s BHB

Now you know. While we’ve given you a basic overview of what BHB is and what it does, there’s still a lot of information out there. Especially if you’re considering adding BHB to your diet, we recommend doing further research on it. It’s interesting stuff, and many people are claiming that it’s helping them melt pounds away faster than ever before, but we’ll let you be the judge of that.
