Your complexion refers to the natural color, appearance, and texture of your skin. It’s usually used in reference to the face, but complexion is a broad enough term that it can apply to the rest of your skin as well. Why is it important to treat your skin right and improve its complexion? Well, if you don’t, then you can suffer from things like dry flakes, dark circles, eye bags, skin sag, wrinkle formation, acne breakouts, and much, much more. The thing is, our skin gets damaged by things that are out of our control. Things like over-exposure to UV-rays, lack of nutrition, smoking, gravity, and various other environmental factors can damage your skin quality. Now, there’s not much you can do to avoid gravity, so how do you preserve your complexion effectively?
Ways To Preserve Your Complexion
- Moisturize – First and foremost, you’ll probably want to increase the amount of times you’re moisturizing. Trapping in moisture and preserving skin hydration keeps your complexion’s texture silky smooth. If you find that your skin is itchy, dry, or just low quality all-around, then that’s a sign you need a proper moisturizer. Ask your skincare professional what product they’d recommend, and then moisturize daily to improve your complexion.
- Acne Prevention – There’s not much more annoying than acne breakouts. They’re unattractive, hard to get rid of, and they keep on coming back. These can detract from the quality of your complexion, since they can draw attention away from your natural beauty. So, what causes acne? A variety of things, actually. Hormones, over-exfoliation, exposure to dirt/germs, etc., etc. When zits start to form, you know it’s time to do something about it. Our advice is to find a skin care product that contains salicylic acid. Those types of products are often used to treat mild outbreaks, so they’re great for simple spots. If your acne problems are severe, however, we recommend consulting a dermatologist so they can recommend a specialized treatment.
- Cleansing – If you feel your skin and find that it’s oily and kind of gross to the touch, then that’s a sign you’re probably not taking care of your complexion properly. The key to achieving non-oily skin is by cleansing, but without over-doing it. If you scrub too hard and destroy those essential oils, your skin will produce more and more to make up for the deficiency. Instead, use a product that can gently wash away excessive oils, so that your skin can still retain the ones necessary for proper moisture-retention.
- Diet – Doing all you can to protect your skin complexion, yet you’re finding that it’s still not up to par? You might need to look at your diet. Unhealthy, processed foods can have a negative effect on how your skin looks. That means if you’re constantly eating unhealthy products, you’re not only going to be unhealthy, you’re going to look unhealthy as well. Alter your diet to include things that are beneficial to your skin, such as almonds, vegetables, and salmon. It might not seem like a huge deal, but trust us, when you eat healthier, your complexion will thank you.
