Have you ever fantasized about having a different job, perhaps your ultimate dream job? What would constitute the perfect job? Many people probably share the similar fantasy of working from home. How great it would be, you might think, to wake up, put the coffee on, and be at work without having to go anywhere at all. But, there has to be a down side, right? Check out our list of Pros and Cons of Online Jobs.
The Pros and Cons of Online Jobs
No commute, no early mornings, no awful office meetings. Other people, however, might drive themselves crazy if they had to work where thy ate and rested. In this article I will discuss the pros and cons of online jobs and working from home.
It’s Lonely At The Top
Even though so many people think that working from would be the ideal job, it also comes with its own challenges. You might not even realize it until you’re in the situation of working by yourself from home, but you might need to be around other people to be productive. Even if you’re fairly introverted, having other people to work with can improve your mood and make you more motivated to work. Face to face communication can certainly be stressful sometimes, but it is also important in many parts of life.
Too Many Distractions
We’ve all been there. You find yourself with a whole day free: no responsibilities, no place to be. You think you’re going to tackle and finish those projects finally. And then comes the end of the night and you haven’t accomplished a single thing. The fact is, working from home brings its fair share of distractions. Whether the dishes need washing or the ice cream and television are calling your name, it’s hard to stay focused on the task at hand.
Staying On Track
Discipline is another issue that becomes much more difficult than you ever imagined before working from home. The best and worst thing about working in an official office setting is that no matter how restless you feel, you have to stay inside, at your desk. At home, on the other hand, if you get the hankering to get some fresh air or lounge for a bit, nobody is stopping you. It’s nice to have that freedom, sure, but most people are going to have a hard time getting things done from working online jobs.
Freedom And Flexibility
Now let me mention some of the pros to working online jobs from home, because there are many, and for some people, working from home really is the ideal situation. The online job is almost always really flexible! This might be the biggest draw for people. You don’t have to call in or fill out forms just to get a few hours off. If you need to jet, it’s up to you! And let’s be real, oversleeping has no bad consequences when you work from home.
Don’t Tread On Me
One of the biggest complaints people have about their job is their manager, supervisor, or boss. For one reason or another, personalities clash and the power struggle between boss and employee can cause a lot of stress and unhappiness. The great thing about working from home is that you only have to report to yourself! Unless you really like quarreling with yourself in the mirror, the boss-employee relationship won’t be problem with the online job. On the other hand, some people find that having a supervisor of some sort really helps motivate them and direct their work.
